FAQ

When is the best time to engage you?

The absolute best time to engage us is at the very start, before you do anything or spend a cent. This will mean you get the best value for money and by having a master plan you will save money, time and resources with a clear end goal for each thing you do. This is true whether you have a whole house to renovate or just one room - or anything in between!

If you've found us part way through a renovation, don't stress, we can work around what you have already done and still make a plan that will maximise your space and be budget friendly.

Can I take your plans straight to council or do I need a draftsman?

If council approval is needed for your renovation, you'll need to take our plans to a draftsman prior to submission. We work as a 'middle man' between you and your draftsman. Our clients save thousands, sometimes tens of thousands, of dollars by perfecting the plan with us before having a draftsman 'regurgitate' it back in official form. This is because you aren't paying for their ideas and you negate the back and forth. In a post covid world where it can be hard to find a draftsman, you'll also be a more desirable client for them to take on if you are clear with what you want!

What’s the difference between you and a building designer/architect?

We provide an alternative to these traditional professions at a much more affordable price point. With building designers and architects you pay tens of thousands of dollars for the convenience of them being a one-stop-shop as they have draftsman and engineers on staff. Working with us means you can go straight to a draftsman and not involve a BA or architect at all.

We also pride ourselves on being extremely practical and budget focused. Jesse is a qualified builder, so you know our recommendations are going to work from a building perspective and ensure you're spending your money wisely.

How do you ensure your virtual clients still receive the same level of insight, accuracy and tailored service as those you work with in person?

In short, we have helped over 850 clients since beginning 5 years ago and 99% of those have been virtual from Australia, New Zealand, the US and UK. It's a tried and true process and our 70+ 5 star Google reviews have developed that confidence and social proof over time which is so humbling and lovely.

We pride ourselves on truly listening to our clients, prioritising the flow and function of spaces, having exceptional attention to detail and being extremely practical with a builder part of the process - all things that set us apart from traditional designers and professionals in the housing design fields.

What this looks like in practice is a detailed questionnaire that asks the right questions, a Zoom call where we do not clock watch but rather spend the time ensuring we are on the same page and an open and honest line of communication all the way through. If there's something we're unsure of - we'll ask, if there's compromises to be made - we'll involve you, if there needs to be an exposed beam when a wall is removed - we'll show you what that would look like in the 3Ds and then talk through the alternatives so you can make an informed decision (for example!).

Spatial planning to us is like a creative jigsaw puzzle, and we actually find it easier to put together when we haven't been in the space! It gives us a fresh, removed perspective that is often the out-of-the-box thinking required to get the absolute best out of a home's floor plan.

We've been in this field for two decades and have completed 9 of our own projects, plus hundreds of others for Jesse as a carpenter - so we feel confident in sharing our experience with others and grateful that technology gives us an avenue to do that at a more accessible price point.

Do you design IKEA kitchens?

It's well known that we love IKEA kitchens and we can design your home to their sizes upon request. We have designed lots of kitchens using their sizes, as well as Kaboodle's, or can design custom if that's what you'd prefer. We are happy to have this chat with you and recommend a way forward depending on your space and needs. Your 2D floor plan would then outline the cabinetry sizes that you would then take to IKEA, Bunnings or a joiner for ordering.

Are you able to do the construction work for me?

If you're in the Hobart/Kingborough region of Tasmania, the answer is - maybe! Jesse has two decades of experience working in home maintenance, building and renovation work, and is happy to have a chat to see if he's a good fit for your job. He is a reliable, honest, fast worker with reasonable rates - and is happy to work with clients who are wanting to complete elements of the job DIY as well.
